WHAT we do
Project Description:
Interactive Computer Owners Network Inc. (ICON) continues to do community
service in Springfield, Missouri, by offering Volunteers to instruct computer
classes to seniors, both at St. John's Hospital and at the South Side Senior
Center. One other ICON member donated two computers for instructing these South
Side Senior Classes.
We are able to handle 30 seniors per month at St. John's hospital and 15 seniors
at the South Side Senior Center.
ICON'S Board of Directors just approved a motion to give the South Side Senior
Center $500.00 to replace one of the three computers with Windows XP operating
system, which is now on the 11 computers at St. John's Lab. All of these basic
and Internet classes are one ½-hour sessions. There have been over 2000 seniors
attended these classes which started in January 1998, and are still very popular
with a waiting list. If ICON is selected for an award, monies will be used for
adding to and updating equipment at the South Side Senior Center or at St.
John's Hospital. Both are non-profit operations.
