WHAT we do
Project Description:
LBIBMUG works with the «Educate The Children» foundation to refurbish computers
for needy schools in our community. Over the past two years the club has
refurbished more than 50 computers for use in various classrooms. This year we
provided assistance in establishing a training and work assistance program where
students can be trained and work during the summer supplying support to other
needy schools in the area. Early in 2004, Caroldale Learning Center (a local
kindergarten - ninth grade school), had several classrooms set on fire by
vandals, destroying computers, printers and network equipment. Our members
donated computers, printers and miscellaneous hardware and worked in conjunction
with the on site computer coordinator to repair and replace much of the school's
loss. The 30+ gratefull students, each made thank you cards to Jerry Clarke,
the project Chairman.
The LBIBMUG also has a scholarship fund set aside to benefit needy children
passionatly interested in the computer industry.
See the www.lbibmug.org website Community services
section for more information on other community activities as well as the school
project activity log.
How we will use award money:
The club would add the award winnings to our scholarship fund, computer
hardware, accessories and networking parts and supplies. This would give us a
greater capability of reaching more needy students with better computer
technology thus providing more educated students that will develop into our
leaders of tomorrow. By our contributing to this cause, we open doors for
students they might not otherwise have the opportunity to walk through and thus
enhance the citizenship of our community's future.
