WHAT we do
Project Description:
Volunteers from PCS assist computer users at the Prescott (Arizona) Public
Library under a computer mentoring program. Anyone can sign up for mentoring -
an hour at a time - in the use of the public computers in the library. Our
assistance allows the library employees to concentrate on other library tasks.
We assist all levels - from the person who knows nothing about computers and
using a mouse to a person who wants to create business cards or needs assistance
in creating complex documents using Microsoft Word. Many of the participants
are senior citizens, but we assist people of all ages and abilities. Some of
them have some limitations on their mental or physical abilities. Some come a
number of times before they are able to master the skills they need, and some
come once for assistance for a specific problem. The mentors also learn
patience and acquire knowledge in many different areas.
How we will use award money:
The Prescott Library has received a grant to install a wireless network.
PCS has offered to assist them with the network and its use by the community.
We would use the award for something that would enhance the mentoring program
using the wireless capabilities.
