Project: Computer Training
Project Name: Education provided for the community
as well as for our members

WHAT we do

Project Description:

  1. Every Wednesday evening 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
    • Computer Lab: Members are on hand to instruct all people who come, and they provide help for beginners and advanced computer users alike. As of April 15 we have helped 570 People.
    • Beginners Lab: Regular classes and individual instruction for those who are new to computers.
  2. SIG (Special Interest Groups) units are held several days each month in our own location and at Blake Library. These classes include the following topics at present with other classes taught according to need.
    • CD Burner
    • Internet
    • E-Mail
    • Photographic
    • Windows 95, 98, ME, XP
    • Windows A-Z
    • Word Processing
    • Spreadsheet
    • Computing 101
    • Quicken
    • Genealogy
    • Computer Lab
      • Rebuilding computers to run Windows 98. When in working order these are given to people in need who cannot afford to buy them. Many students and people in nursing homes have been helped in this manner,
      • Newspaper Articles
        The work of the club has been recognized by reporters in local newspapers and major articles have told the public about our programs.
      • Random Access
        This allows questions from the floor to be fielded by an expert who answers immediately. This popular program serves up to 200 people each month. Two programs serve two locations:
        • Random Access at the regular monthly meeting. (North)
        • Hobe Sound Random Access. (South)

How we will use award money:

HOW we do what we do

  1. We hold an open meeting once a month to which the community is invited. Random Access is available at this meeting. (Attendance about 200)
  2. We rent a community room which serves as a classroom and a meeting room. This enables us to hold regular classes open to the public without charge.
  3. Our Board of Directors meets once a month to organize and plan our programs.
  4. We hold an orientation meeting for all new members every month which enables our members to know how to help and serve others.
  5. Our membership roll contains information on the skills of our members so that we know those who are available to help in the various programs.
  6. SIG programs are held in morning, afternoon, and night hours to accommodate people in various circumstances.
