WHAT we do
We created a new set of application software we call our
Children Image which is usually
used for computers donated to day care centers, summer day camps, schools, and missionaries
seeking to set up classes for children. The child clicks on an icon for the number which
represents the grade he/she is in, and a folder containing programs for that grade level is
opened. Currently it has programs for children in grades 1
through 6, but we are hoping to expand it to include educational programs for older children.
It was originally created at the request of St Mark's United Methodist Church for use
in their Project Transformation summer day camp
but we have subsequently found it useful for a number of other donations, including
computers provided to Tulsa Housing Authority
and HUD
Section 8 facilities for low income families, a grade 1-6 after school program
the Superior Pawnee Computer Society is working on in
Nebraska, and 20 machines we provided to Blessings International
for shipment to Sierra Leone.
We are also working with the Superior Pawnee Computer Society
and three high school teachers in Nebraska
to expand the Children's image to include programs for grades 7 through 12.
Project Description:
How we will use award money:
Monetary award would be used to cover purchases of items not provided when companies donate
computers to be refurbished. For example some remove hard drives, or fail to provide mice
and power cables. We would also like to purchase software that will completely destroy
all information on a hard drive, so we can provide that software to major donors in hope
that they will give us their old hard drives, and we would like to fund the expense of
a mailing to encourage major corporations to donate their old computers to our project.

HOW we do what we do
Since God provides the machines we refurbish, we started with our Bible Image
(http://www.helpingtulsa.org/images/bible.htm)
and added the programs shown at
http://www.helpingtulsa.org/images/children.htm.
We then followed the procedures
at http://www.helpingtulsa.org/howto/makeimage.htm
to make a GHOST image, which was then installed on all of the computers.
