Since fall Comdex 98 CBUG and the Phoenix Project, which takes donated
Computers, refurbishes them and gives them to schools and non-profits, thorough out the state of Maryland. Has refurbed over 1000 computer mostly 486's and some Pentiums and at a school in Baltimore installed on 30 donated Pentiums, CD-ROMs, network and sound cards and attached them to s schools network.

We are also allied with A+ training at Baltimore City Community College,
Catonsville Community College and Howard Community college. These community
colleges send their students to the Phoenix Project to get hands on experience with computer, Taking their classroom learning to a real world situation where they can diagnose and fix what is wrong with the donated computer. Three of our volunteers have received their A+ certification and two of the A+ still come back on a regular basis to help use and train new volunteers.

We recently signed and a agreement with Baltimore Gas and Electric to take and refurb old computers from BGE, Which over the next two yeas will amount to 5000 + 486's and Pentiums.

We are in the process of moving to a new state sponsored facility which will double our square footage. We have also appeared on TV three times in the last year showing what we do. Those appearances have generated an additional 500 computers.

We are also working with the National Cristina Foundation and are helping to
create an on line Volunteers Resource Guide and will work the NCF and APCUG
to have available ask a tech. The Ask a Tech at the NCF site will allow
other recyclers to ask tech questions to help solve their problems.

Thanks to our appearances on the lock TV program "Coffee With" we now have a
MAC certified repair person, who repairs donated Mac's for the Project.

The Phoenix Project has been going on for eight years and the future is
looking ever brighter for computer recycling for schools.

We do all the above with a dedicated group of unselfish volunteers and
support of CBUG
